Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has announced that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has conferred a chieftaincy title on him and gifted him a brand new car.
According to Baba Ijesha, he was bestowed with the traditional title of Baba Awada Konge Oduwa during his visit to the Ooni's palace.
In his appreciation message, the actor thanked the monarch for the recognition and prayed for continued blessings upon the royal household.
The development comes months after Baba Ijesha regained his freedom following his imprisonment over the sexual assault of a minor.
In July 2022, a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja convicted the actor on multiple charges relating to the sexual assault and indecent treatment of a 14 year old girl.
The court sentenced him to a total of 16 years across several counts. However, because the sentences were ordered to run concurrently, he was required to serve five years in prison from July 14, 2022.
Baba Ijesha was subsequently released from prison in November 2025 after serving about three years.
Following his release, he kept a relatively low profile before later marrying celebrity stylist CEO Luminee. In June 2026, the couple surprised many Nigerians by announcing the birth of their son, King Kagar Omiyinka.
His latest announcement about receiving a royal title and a new car from the Ooni of Ife has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed opinions over the honour in light of his past conviction.
